Waiting and waiting and waiting

I have been following the GM contract, because most folks think that Chrysler will get something similar. I hope it’s not worse. Our distinguished CEO Sergio has been acting like a little brat publicly, sending a nasty, patronizing letter to Bob King a couple weeks ago. Acting like he, Sergio, was the only one looking out for Chrysler workers. MF, please. Now you come to the table pushing for an unlimited number of tier-two workers? And you want to act like some kind of benevolent patron on a plantation. Piss off. We know better. We know that bonuses are a one-time salvo for brokeness. We know that raises are better, more sustained and more reliable. We know that $3500 is something that we can earn in a minute, working overtime. We know that $3 over 4 years keeps us at the same near-poverty we’re in now. We understand that every single benefit we enjoy is because someone, or a lot of someones, raised hell for it. We don’t get bathroom breaks and lunch breaks because some jerk like Sergio Marcchione thinks it’s a nice thing to do. We see, clearer and clearer by the day, that the bosses do NOT have our best interests in mind when they open their mouths for anything. Not even to yawn.

A lot of my co-workers think that the contract is going to end up in arbitration. And welcome that outcome. So, like we used to say in Catholic school we “wait in joyful hope” to see what happens. On that note, I’m off to a health fair to get my cholesterol checked, since my crappy tier-two benefits won’t cover the doctor’s visit.
